You book the vehicle for a block of hours with a driver, and it either runs a set route between venues or waits and takes you wherever the night goes. Inside there is seating around the edge, a sound system you can connect to and usually a chilled bar.
Most operators include a bottle or two and let you bring your own on top. Glass, food and anything that can be spilled are the usual restrictions, and there is a cleaning charge if the group gets it wrong.

Barcelona's party buses carry 13 to 42 people, but local rules mean no alcohol on board, so treat them as a loud, lit-up way to travel rather than a drinking venue. The popular use is the arrival transfer: a meet and greet in the airport arrivals hall, then a party bus with lights and a big sound system for the roughly 40-minute run to your accommodation. Evening tours last about an hour, but on weekdays the service is not available before 8:30pm; weekends are unaffected. Everyone must be 18 or over. Confirm the group's arrival times in advance so the pick-up matches.
Local tips
Prague's beer buses are the common choice: a two-hour run round the city with unlimited draught beer on board, a driver, and a port to play your own music. Each takes around 14 or 15 people, and operators run from mid-morning until late evening. Turn up sober, because operators refuse boarding to anyone already intoxicated and do not refund. A bigger group can take a full-size party bus with a DJ for up to about 44, and for a shorter outing there is a stretch Hummer for an hour from your hotel. Everything on wheels here is 18-plus.
