What it's like
A surf lesson starts on the sand with paddling and standing up, then moves into the shallows with instructors in the water alongside. Standing up for a second or two counts as a win, and the falling off is most of the entertainment.
Wakeboarding is towed rather than paddled. A cable park pulls riders round a lake on an overhead line, one after another; a boat tows one rider at a time while the rest watch and shout from on board.
Wetsuits, boards and buoyancy aids are provided. Bring swimwear, a towel and a full change of clothes. Everyone needs to be able to swim, and nobody goes in after a drink.
